What is the Paper Sumo Association using Milk Cartons?
Since 2018, the organizing committee has been transformed into an association!
The theme is "Community and intergenerational exchange."
In May 2009, event MC/talent Daisuke Yamada and Umibozu started a paper sumo game using milk cartons in Hokkaido, proposing it as a game that children and the elderly could enjoy together without any handicaps.
Initially, they held exchange events at various locations throughout Hokkaido, such as welfare facilities, kindergartens, and festival venues.
We took custody of the sumo wrestlers created by the participants and held a "real tournament" in Sapporo, creating a ranking system just like in professional sumo wrestling, and live-streamed the matches online.
The live commentary, which is so realistic it's hard to believe it's paper sumo, has become a hot topic, attracting coverage from numerous media outlets, including television and radio stations both within and outside Hokkaido, and the total number of viewers has exceeded 300,000!

How do I become a member of the association?
Anyone who has participated in paper sumo using milk cartons as a stablemaster (you become a stablemaster as soon as you enter a sumo wrestler) and has experience creating sumo wrestlers ranked at or above the Juryo rank can join the association.
The holding of the main tournament
The Paper Sumo Association, which uses milk cartons to make sumo, holds four official tournaments a year [January-March, April-June, July-September, and October-December], each lasting nine days (the Juryo division is a team competition, while the Makushita division and below are tournaments). The association then publishes rankings based on the performance of the sumo wrestlers.
*Revised in 2023: The number of tournaments per year has been changed from 6 to 4.
*Revised in 2026: The Juryo division has been changed to a team competition with teams of four.
